Hand Wounds (SOFCOT Monograph No. 93)

T. Dubert and E. Masmejean

The high incidence of hand injuries and the wide diversity of clinical presentations justify an up-to-date review of therapeutic advances and optimal management strategies. This monograph, published under the auspices of SOFCOT and edited by T. Dubert and E. Masmejean, provides comprehensive insights into epidemiology, prevention, anatomy, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

All injuries encountered in daily practice are covered, addressing their various aspects: diagnosis, surgical treatment, postoperative care, and outcome evaluation. The final three chapters emphasize that our mission also includes helping patients restore functional integrity and reintegrate into their professional and social environments.

European Course on Surgical Pathology of the Upper Limb and Hand 2014

C. Fontaine, D. Le Nen, P. Liverneaux, E. Masmejean

For the eighth consecutive year, the organizers of the European Course on Hand and Upper Limb Surgery—traditionally held during the third week of January each year at Georges Pompidou European Hospital—have made the course content available to a wider audience rather than limiting its distribution to registered participants. Their aim is to disseminate the latest knowledge on major topics in hand and upper limb pathology to hand and upper limb surgeons, whether orthopedic or plastic surgeons, treating both children and adults, as well as rehabilitation physicians, rheumatologists, sports physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nursing staff involved in patient care.

This eighth volume clearly reflects the spirit in which these courses have been designed: rather than approaching upper limb disorders by anatomical region (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand), transversal themes have been selected, covering the full spectrum of upper limb pathology. These include muscle and tendon disorders of the upper limb—an evolving and increasingly prevalent field in clinical practice—upper limb tumors, which are increasingly managed in specialized centers but whose treatment principles should be widely understood, and soft tissue coverage of the upper limb, complementing that of the hand addressed in the 2010 course, to which readers can refer.

As in previous years, the course has been organized under the auspices of the French College of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Traumatologists and the College of Hand Surgery Teachers. This year, it is also endorsed by the European Federation of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT), the Bone Tumor Study Group (GETO), and the Advancement Group for Microsurgery (GAM). It is now recognized as Continuing Medical Education (CME), with the support of the French Society for Orthopaedic and Traumatologic Surgery (SOFCOT).

European Course on Surgical Pathology of the Upper Limb and Hand 2013

C. Fontaine, P. Liverneaux, E. Masmejean

For the seventh consecutive year, the organizing team—expanded this year to include Dominique Le Nen—of the European Course on Hand and Upper Limb Surgery, traditionally held during the third week of January at Georges Pompidou European Hospital (HEGP), has made the course content available to a wider audience rather than restricting it to attendees. Their aim is to disseminate the latest knowledge on major topics in hand and upper limb pathology to a broad range of specialists, including hand and upper limb surgeons (orthopaedic or plastic), treating both children and adults, as well as rehabilitation physicians, rheumatologists, infectious disease specialists, sports physicians, occupational and public health physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nursing staff.

This seventh volume clearly reflects the philosophy behind these courses: rather than approaching upper limb disorders by anatomical region (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand), transversal themes have been selected, covering the full spectrum of upper limb pathology. These include articular fractures of the upper limb and work-related hand disorders. Building on the topic of nerve repair addressed in a previous volume, this edition also provides updated insights into the challenging management of traumatic brachial plexus injuries in adults.

As in previous years, the course is organized under the auspices of the French College of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Traumatologists and the French College of Hand Surgery Teachers. In 2013, it is also endorsed by the European Federation of Hand Emergency Services (FESUM). It is now recognized as Continuing Medical Education (CME), with the support of the French Society for Orthopaedic and Traumatologic Surgery (SOFCOT).

European Course on Surgical Pathology of the Upper Limb and Hand 2012

C. Fontaine, P. Liverneaux, E. Masmejean

For the sixth consecutive year, the organizers of the European Course on Hand and Upper Limb Surgery—traditionally held during the third week of January at Georges Pompidou European Hospital (HEGP)—have made the course content available to a wider audience rather than limiting it to attendees. Their aim is to disseminate the latest knowledge on major topics in hand and upper limb pathology to hand and upper limb surgeons (orthopaedic or plastic), treating both children and adults, as well as rehabilitation physicians, rheumatologists, infectious disease specialists, sports physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nursing staff involved in patient care.

This sixth volume reflects the spirit in which these courses have been designed: rather than approaching upper limb disorders by anatomical region (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand), transversal themes have been selected, covering the full spectrum of upper limb pathology. These include rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory rheumatic conditions, amputations and replantations, as well as immobilization and orthotic systems. For the first time, in addition to theoretical teaching, the course also offered participants—upon prior registration—the opportunity to take part in hands-on workshops focusing on immobilization techniques.

As in previous years, the course is organized under the auspices of the French College of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Traumatologists and the French College of Hand Surgery Teachers. In 2012, it is also endorsed by the European Rheumatoid Arthritis Surgical Society (ERASS), the European Federation of Hand Emergency Services (FESUM), and the Study Group for the Hand and Upper Limb in Orthotics and Rehabilitation (GEMMSOR). It is now recognized as Continuing Medical Education (CME), with the support of the French Society for Orthopaedic and Traumatologic Surgery (SOFCOT).

European Course on Surgical Pathology of the Upper Limb and Hand 2011

C. Fontaine, P. Liverneaux, E. Masmejean

For the fifth consecutive year, the organizers of the European Course on Hand and Upper Limb Surgery—traditionally held during the third week of January at Georges Pompidou European Hospital—have made the course content available to a wider audience rather than limiting it to registered participants. Their aim is to disseminate the latest knowledge on major topics in hand and upper limb pathology to hand and upper limb surgeons (orthopaedic or plastic), treating both children and adults, as well as rehabilitation physicians, rheumatologists, infectious disease specialists, sports physicians, neurosurgeons, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nursing staff involved in patient care.

This fifth volume reflects the spirit in which these courses have been designed: rather than approaching upper limb disorders by anatomical region (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand), transversal themes have been selected, covering the full spectrum of upper limb pathology. This edition focuses on sports-related conditions and infections.

A significant portion is dedicated to nerve repair techniques, serving as an introduction to the following two volumes, which address brachial plexus palsies and peripheral nerve injuries of the upper limb. As in previous years, the course is organized under the auspices of the French College of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Traumatologists and the College of Hand Surgery Teachers, and is also supported by the French Society of Sports Traumatology and the Advancement Group for Microsurgery. It is now recognized as Continuing Medical Education (CME), with the support of the French Society for Orthopaedic and Traumatologic Surgery (SOFCOT).

European Course on Surgical Pathology of the Upper Limb and Hand 2010

Acute and Chronic Ligament Injuries of the Upper Limb. Traumatic Skin Loss of the Hand. Wrist Arthroscopy.

C. Fontaine, P. Liverneaux, E. Masmejean

For the fourth consecutive year, the organizers of the European Course on Hand and Upper Limb Surgery—held annually in January at Georges Pompidou European Hospital—have made the course content available to a wider audience rather than limiting it to registered participants. Their aim is to disseminate the latest knowledge on major topics in hand and upper limb pathology to orthopaedic and plastic surgeons treating both children and adults, as well as rehabilitation physicians, rheumatologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nursing staff involved in patient care.

This fourth volume reflects the philosophy behind these courses: rather than approaching upper limb disorders by anatomical region (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand), transversal themes are selected, covering the full spectrum of upper limb pathology. This year focuses on acute and chronic ligament injuries of the upper limb. As in previous editions, the collection addresses at least one major topic in traumatology—here, techniques for the management of traumatic skin loss of the hand, which remain highly relevant.

Finally, this volume provides an overview of the role of arthroscopy in the diagnostic and therapeutic management of wrist disorders. As in the previous two years, the course—organized under the auspices of the French College of Hand Surgery Teachers—is recognized as Continuing Medical Education (CME), with the support of the French Society for Orthopaedic and Traumatologic Surgery (SOFCOT).

Upper Limb Joint Prostheses. Traumatic Injuries of the Finger Flexor Tendons. Burns of the Upper Limb.

C. Fontaine, P. Liverneaux, E. Masmejean

Organized under the auspices of the French College of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Traumatologists and the French College of Hand Surgery Teachers. For the third consecutive year, the organizers of the European Course on Hand and Upper Limb Surgery—held annually in January at Georges Pompidou European Hospital—have made the course content available to a wider audience rather than limiting it to registered participants. Their aim is to disseminate the latest knowledge on major topics in hand and upper limb pathology to hand and upper limb surgeons (orthopaedic or plastic), treating both children and adults, as well as rehabilitation physicians, rheumatologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nursing staff involved in patient care.

This third volume reflects the philosophy behind these courses: rather than approaching upper limb disorders by anatomical region (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand), transversal themes are selected, covering the full spectrum of upper limb pathology. This year focuses on upper limb prostheses and burns. As in previous editions, the collection addresses at least one major topic in traumatology—here, alongside burns, particular emphasis is placed on flexor tendon injuries, which remain highly relevant in daily practice.

As in the previous year, the course—organized under the auspices of the French College of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Traumatologists and the French College of Hand Surgery Teachers—is recognized as Continuing Medical Education (CME), with the support of the French Society for Orthopaedic and Traumatologic Surgery (SOFCOT).

European Course on Surgical Pathology of the Upper Limb and Hand 2008

Post-traumatic Stiffness: From Shoulder to Fingers. Upper Limb Nerve Compression Syndromes. Pediatric Osteoarticular Trauma.

C. Fontaine, P. Liverneaux, E. Masmejean

For the second consecutive year, the organizers of the European Course on Hand and Upper Limb Surgery—traditionally held during the third week of January each year at Georges Pompidou European Hospital—have made the course content available to a wider audience rather than limiting it to registered participants.

This second volume reflects the philosophy behind these courses: rather than approaching upper limb disorders by anatomical region (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand), transversal themes are selected, covering the full spectrum of upper limb pathology. These include post-traumatic stiffness, nerve compression syndromes, and pediatric osteoarticular trauma.

As demonstrated, the collection addresses both recent trauma—in children and adults—and non-acute orthopaedic conditions affecting bones, joints, muscles, tendons, arteries, and veins. Notably, this course, organized for years under the auspices of the French College of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Traumatologists, is now officially recognized as Continuing Medical Education (CME).

European Course on Surgical Pathology of the Upper Limb and Hand 2007

Rotator Cuff Tears. Dupuytren’s Diathesis. Partial Wrist Arthrodesis. Traumatic Injuries of the Extensor Tendons. Hand Surgery and Spasticity.

C. Fontaine, P. Liverneaux, E. Masmejean

The organizers of the European Course on Hand and Upper Limb Surgery—traditionally held during the third week of January each year at Georges Pompidou European Hospital—decided to make the course content available to a wider audience rather than limiting it to registered participants. Their aim is to disseminate the latest knowledge on major topics in hand and upper limb pathology to hand and upper limb surgeons (orthopaedic or plastic), rehabilitation physicians, rheumatologists, and physiotherapists, covering traumatic, rheumatic, degenerative, and neurological conditions, as well as their management.

This first volume clearly reflects the spirit in which these courses are organized: comprehensive updates on the one hand, and a broad, eclectic selection of topics on the other. This edition includes detailed reviews of rotator cuff tears, traumatic injuries of the finger extensor tendons, Dupuytren’s disease, partial wrist arthrodesis, and spasticity of the hand and upper limb in post-stroke hemiplegic patients (including techniques, indications, and outcomes).
